Your Device Does Not Support Dp Alt Mode Please Install the Latest Driver and Try Again

Hello HelenSingleton1,

Thank you for reaching out Surface Community. This may or may non work depending on the compatibility and the cables/adapters being used. I'd like to go deeper into this and I take few questions below to isolate the issue. I hope you don't mind.

  • Are you connecting straight to the Surface miniDisplay port?
  • What cable did you use from Surface to Portable Asus Monitor MB16AC?
  • Did yous happen to employ a miniDisplay adapter? If then what kind of adapter?
  • If yous're using an adapter what kind of cable did you use? Is HDMI to HDMI/DVI/VGA?
  • What is the Version and Os Build of your Surface Device.

I would also recommend that you visit this link Trouble connecting Surface to a second screen. On that folio y'all will see the recommended cables and adapter, the supported resolution and refresh rate, including t he monitors that are compatible with Surface with or without the Surface Dock.

Please keep us posted.

Thank you,

Karen

Hi Karen,

No, I am connecting directly to the laptop with the Asus supplied cablevision and adapter. It is a USB C cablevision with a type A adapter for the laptop.

I haven't used a mini display adapter.

I have no idea what the cable is I'1000 afraid. It was supplied by Asus and came with the monitor.

I accept a Surface Laptop 2 intel core I7 with Windows 10

Many Thank you

Mark

Hullo HelenSingleton1,

Cheers for your quick response. The only way that we tin can extend the display/duplicate is through miniDisplay Port on your Surface Device. And it will depend on the compatibility so this may or may not piece of work. Delight visit Trouble connecting Surface to a second screen to check for recommended cables, adapters and monitors.

Regards,
KarenJune_F

That monitor uses the USB port for power as well equally display. Surface does not supply plenty power over USB for many peripherals, and then even if y'all have a driver for this ASUS USB monitor, it is unlikely to work.  Sorry.

Have you tried using the USB-A port? After not being able to connect via the USB-C (after downloading the drivers), I tried the USB-A port (I believe an adapter came with the monitor) and now it works fine. :)
